K.J. Choi Finishes 2nd at Malaysian Open with SuperStroke Grip
March 12, 2010
K.J. Choi finished 2nd at the Maybank Malaysian Open Sunday playing with a SuperStroke jumbo putter grip. Choi has won three times on the PGA Tour with a SuperStroke at the end of his putters. He also won last October at the Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysiausing the jumbo grip that measures 1.67 inches in diameter.
This week at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, Choi was back to top form on the greens using the SuperStroke grip he helped make a phenomenon on the PGA Tour. Choi ranked 7th in Putts Per GIR and averaged 28.24 putts per round. He shot 67-70-69-69 for the event and birdied hole No. 18 for the clubhouse lead at 13 under.
“I’m not disappointed at all,” said Choi. “I played well and tried my best. Hats off to Noh, he played well and had a fantastic round. I’m happy with how my game has improved and I have a lot to look forward to. Noh played brilliantly and I have no complaints.”
Over 50 PGA Tour pros put SuperStroke technology into play over the last three seasons. Jumbo grips are designed to reduce wrist breaks and enhance a pendulum stroke, and they are also proven to reduce grip pressure and keep the putter head square. Extensive testing has shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips. Other benefits include natural balance and set up, less putter head rotation, accurate smooth putting stroke, improved ball roll and greater distance control.
The SuperStroke non-taper design patent allows for finger tip placement on opposing sides of the shaft. This feature keeps the putter face square on contact and dramatically improves feel for distance control. The flat side options offers a variety of different hand positions for golfers looking to utilize a left hand low, right hand low or claw type of grip.
“Most golf instructors stress the importance of keeping grip tension to a minimum while putting,” said Tiger Shark President Dean Dingman. “Keeping the wrists from hinging is paramount to improving on the greens and the SuperStroke design has proven to be the most effective for promoting a smooth, fluid, and tension free motion.”
