KJ’s Jumbo Putter Grip

The big putter grip KJ Choi is playing this week at Augusta is called a SuperStroke putter grip. It measures 1.67 inches in diameter or roughly 3 times the size of a standard putting grip. Choi has been playing well paired with the world’s #1 ranked golfer and currently sits at T4th heading into the weekend.
Choi has won three times with the SuperStroke grip on the PGA Tour and recently had two 2nd place finishes (Malaysian Open, Transitions Championship) with the SuperStroke grip. At Innisbrook Resort a few weeks ago, Choi was back to top form on the greens. He ranked 2nd in Putts Per GIR for the tournament and averaged 27.3 putts per round for a 5th place ranking.
The jumbo grips are designed to reduce wrist breaks and enhance a pendulum stroke, and they are also proven to reduce grip pressure and keep the putter head square. Extensive testing has shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips. Other benefits include natural balance and set up, less putter head rotation, accurate smooth putting stroke, improved ball roll and greater distance control.
Tiger Shark Putter and Jumbo Grip Sneak Way Into Augusta Field
The story goes that the 56th ranked player on the PGA Tour had been hitting the ball incredibly well all year, but struggling with his putting a bit.  He spent all last week working with his swing coach and they found out that part of his problem on the greens was that he had his hands too far in front of the ball. It was the day he was leaving for Augusta and he and his coach went to a golf retail store in Arizona to try to find a non-offset center shafted putter to help get the feeling of his hands in the right place.
He found his answer in a $59 Tiger Shark Great White putter featuring Tiger Shark’s legendary UltraTac jumbo putter grip. The former UNLV graduate loves the larger grip and likes the position that the non-offset center shaft gets his hands. He worked with it at the beginning of the week and officially put it in his bag for The Masters, leading him to only 55 putts in the first two rounds, an average of 27.54 putts per round. He says he is rolling it better than he has since the very beginning of the year when he had 3 Top 5's to start the year. He is playing a Great White GW-8 center shafted putter with a Tiger Shark jumbo UltraTac grip that measures 1.25 inches in diameter.
